EU funding for the project Cesta na Grad road and Skalna klet school route

SLOVENIA, July 3 - The project, which is already underway, aims to create a safe, accessible, and attractive network for pedestrians, as well as to improve conditions for cycling and public passenger transport within the Municipality of Celje. The project includes the development of an important transport link to Celje Castle and the Skalna klet Sports Centre, promotes sustainable mobility and reduces the environmental impact of motorised transport.

The project will implement the following activities:

  • construction of 1.6-metre-wide pavements with a total length of 2004 metres, with levelled pedestrian crossings and accessibility for persons with reduced mobility,
  • construction of cycle connections:
  • a 1.75-metre-wide cycle lane on both sides in the length of 776 metres on the section of the Cesta na Grad road (Skalna klet Sports Centre),
  • a 1-metre-wide two-way auxiliary cycle lane in the length of 3128 metres on the Cesta na Grad road and the Popovičeva ulica street
  • public passenger transport (PPT) stops:
    • a new double-sided bus stop on the section to the Celje Castle,
    • a new PPT stop on the Popovičeva ulica street.

The project will enhance road safety for pedestrians, particularly schoolchildren, and improve accessibility and safety for all road users. The project makes a significant contribution to achieving the objectives of sustainable mobility and improving the quality of life in urban environments.

For a total project value of €5,529,742.24, the European Regional Development Fund will contribute €2,510,011.01 of EU funding.
